Finding magazines that contain great advertisements is a fun collecting adventure!
The great thing about magazines is millions upon millions of them were printed and they often show up at thrift stores, estate sales and flea markets.
Here are my top sources for finding great magazines listed from best to worst.
Estate Sales
Estate sales are held when people have deceased and they will often have a large collection of print media. Because the collector is no longer the person to sell, usually the items will not be sorted or cataloged. You will have to find the items yourself, but usually you can get a bulk set of magazines.
Usually $0.50-$1 per magazine
Garage Sales
Garage sales are like estate sales. You are likely to get a good quantity at a good price, however the magazines are likely to be newer because they are active families simply cleaning out junk and they are not usually collectors.
Usually $.25-$1 per magazine
Major Thrift Stores
I haven’t had luck at major thrift stores like Goodwill and Salvation army. If they get any magazines at all, they go fast.
Small Thrift Stores
Small thrift stores may have small numbers of vintage magazines. However usually they are retail priced and the staff knows that they are collectables.
Usually $3-10 per magazine
Flea Markets
Flea markets are a great place to get magazines in bulk.
Usually $1-$5 per magazine
Antique Malls
Antique malls will often have multiple sellers with a few magazines. It is a great way to look for a lot of items in one outing. However they tend to be on the pricier side
Usually $5-15 per magazine
Antique Stores
Antique stores will often have desirable magazines but the prices will usually be higher, and the sellers will often price based on current events or other locally popular factors that increase the price
Anywhere from $5-50 per magazine
A catalog and collection of vintage, quirky, gay, tech, gaming and rare advertisements from famous and not so famous magazines.
