One of the missing features in Notion (which this site is built on) is the ability to limit database views to 1 or 4 items. You can currently only limit to 10 items. This is a problem because in many places on the site I want to show “Latest Item” or “Latest 4 Items”. There is a workaround however and it makes use of an indirect stats table, lookups and formulas. The basic structure is this:
- Create a unique auto incrementing identifier on the target table
- Create a Stats database that will have one row that houses summary stats about the target database
- Rollup the max identifier into the stats table, we’ll call this MaxId
- Create a formula on stats that converts the max identifier to a number (this is necessary because you can’t rollup the rollup again back into the target table)
- Rollup the new max ID number into the target database
- If target database Id = MaxId then it is the latest
You can do this for latest 2, 3, 4, 5 or any number by calculating the MaxId - LIMIT
